CHIPMAN INCH BY INCH
Yet another nail-biter for Hook & Paddle ~ Chipman ~ as the host of the 8th event of the season. With our biggest crowd of the season, anglers were anticipating that today was hopefully a day just to have fun on the water catching many, many fish with chance at winning a HUGE draw prize to boot.
The field of 51 caught and sent in 286 registered fish pics -- anglers averaged 5.6 fish each and as most know, there was one species that would put them over the top if they were able to find it, but today for the first time in 4 years, not one angler was able to take a picture of the elusive american eel, which meant every inch was going to matter when the dust settled.
Today it wasn't the inches that put our winner over the top, it was serving the competition like a good butler in the chubby-chain X Zone Lures THE ROD GLOVE target species bonus points! Today with seven species, including his Personal Best 25.25inch chain pickerel and a 12.50inch chub/fallfish it was Roy the Butler serving up his first ever Atlantic Laser Works 1st place plaque. Roy posted 98.50 points, and walked away with a custom Doiron Outfitters Yeti as well as $300 cold hard cash, donated by our generous host Municipality of Grand Lake NB! We had a tie for 2nd place with two anglers both catching seven species and finishing with 96.25 points. Bryan Cawthra takes home the second place plaque with the longer chain pickerel on the day, while Travis Melanson walks away with the Minnow Tackle Shop prize pack. Greg McLaughlin found seven species, including a nice 18.75 inch smallmouth bass and with 93.75 points, Greg wins a Scotty Fishing Products 131 Action Camera Boom. Peter Nyenhuis & Will Redmond tie for 5th place both with 90.75 points, claiming a 13 Fishing Canada rod and Bassdash prize pack.
Parker Sherwood was the top youth angler of the day, winning his first Walters Baits custom trophy, John Frazee was the winner of the Rapala #CrushCity Bass Lunker, with a 19 incher, and claims $100 cash as well. Henning Metz was the winner of the Malone Auto Racks kayak cart draw, Nicolas Mayne won the 506 Tackle Supply terminal tackle draw, Sophie Nyenhuis winning the Walters Baits draw, and Ivan Khimich was the lucky winner of the Garmin LiveScope draw prize! Donated by Terry Lemon Minnow Tackle Shop Garmin.
Travis Melanson leads the way in the bass series, followed by Bryan Cawthra and Rene Pelletier with a couple more stops to round out your top 5 bass. No change in the Youth Series, as Gage remains in 1st , with Alex in 2nd and Damien in 3rd. And then there were two -- the Von Paving HP Elimination Bracket comes down to Gage Nyenhuis vs Travis Melanson for bragging rights and the right to claim $750 or $250 cold hard cash!
Overall Standings have tightened up as we get ready for the 2 day finale in September, but it's still Gage Nyenhuis leading the way, followed closely by brother Peter, and Bryan Cawthra right behind them. Travis Melanson and Jean Muzzerall round out the top 5.
