SOUTHWEST SHOWDOWN FUNDY EDITION
Hook and Paddle heads South for the third tournament of the season, as Fundy Shores/Discover SW New Brunswick hosts the anglers for what is new water for our series. The week leading up to this event the weather was calling for rain, so anglers prepared for wind, bugs, rain, and everything in between. With a freshly graded parking lot and road into the ramp, the sun shining, and the wind keeping any bugs at bay.. it was shaping up to be an exciting day on the water! Anglers had to make a decision as this was the largest boundary to explore that we have had in the series. Would they head to the far end to find species, or try their luck and pray for a lake trout bite?
Whether you decided to hit the banks or troll the depts, when it was all said and done, most of the 100+ fish that 38 anglers managed to find were all similar species, which made the tournament standings tight. But it was Travis Melanson, who was fresh off his first-place finish the day before, that was able to find 5 different species on the day, including the elusive trout to put him over the top for a weekend sweep of 1st place Atlantic Laser Works plaques! Melanson finished with 59.75 points, claiming a Scotty Fishing Products 131 Camera Boom, Doiron Outfitters YETI, and a face full of food. Gage Nyenhuis also found a trout and took home 2nd place, winning a 13 Fishing Canada rod, with 58.50 points just 0.25 points from winning. Allan Marsh moved up into 3rd place winning the X Zone Lures THE ROD GLOVE Target Species Lunker with a 17.75 smallmouth bass + 10.75 fall fish, adding a Scotty Fishing Products 139 Phone Holder, and adding his first Atlantic Laser Works plaque to his trophy wall. Dylan Wood was the only other angler to land a trout, which gave him 4th overall with 51.25 points, a @luckystrike bait works net, and Dylan also won a $300 Costa Sunglasses prize pack draw! Bryan Cawthra managed to find himself in 5th for the second time this weekend with 49 points.
Parker Sherwood was the winner of Lambert Family Adventures Whale and Wildlife Tours whale watching trip, Peter Nyenhuis was the winner of the 506 Tackle Supply tackle box draw, Andrew Craig won the Walters Baits bait box draw,
Huge shout out to the local fans of Hook & Paddle TV that provided pizza and Timbits for anglers after the tournament, and to Mayor Denny, and the entire team for welcoming us all to East Branch, and donating a few local draw prizes for anglers to remember Fundy Shores! We look forward to Hook & Paddle ~ McAdam ~ where we will find out who will take home some cash prizes as we conclude the Southwest NB Showdown competition, and then head to Hook & Paddle ~ Woodstock ~ West NB Tourism for another double header weekend!
Gage Nyenhuis had a great weekend, and takes the lead in the Youth Division, with Damien Dorcas and Alex Hickey in a tight battle behind Gage. In the Overall Standings, it's no surprise that Travis moves into first with a back-to-back sweep he now has 11 species for 166.75 points. Konnor Nyenhuis as the only other winner so far, is keeping pace in second place with 158.25 points. 2023 R.O.Y Nick Colpitts is sitting in 3rd with 146.75 points, while Peter Nyenhuis is right behind with 145.75 and Bryan Cawthra sits in 5th with 144.50. Still lots of movement to come, but anglers will now start to focus on the next tournaments to upgrade species and find new ones!
