MIRAMICHI MORNING RUSH
Hook and Paddle kicked off their 2024 season, once again on the Mighty Miramichi! 2024 marks the 6th year our series has been to Miramichi, and every year has been a different story, with weather, fishing, and flipping yaks there is always something to report. This year, with our largest field ever at this location, we had 42 kayak anglers mixed in with boats that seemingly were practicing their slalom racing in between kayaks as they raced to chase schools and move spots. The early bite seemed to be the ticket, and when the wind picked up in the afternoon, the bite cooled off with the temperature.
But that didn't stop our HP anglers from kicking off their season and registering over 100 Striped Bass on the day -- it was great to see old friends and meet new members joining the Hook & Paddle community. Anglers were eagerly anticipating hitting the water and getting their season started on the right track. and wouldn't you know it, a Grizzled HP Vet -- Konnor Nyenhuis, who's still technically a kid, without a mullet, was the cream of the crop on this day, not only did Konnor land the X Zone Lures THE ROD GLOVE LUNKER today with a 30-incher, but he also managed to top the field and attain max bonus points to start his season. Konnor ends the day with a total of 91.50 points, winning $500 cash from Discover Miramichi, a customer YETI Mug from Doiron Outfitters, 1st place Atlantic Laser Works custom plaque, and a 13 Fishing Canada rod to boot.. what a haul! Bryan Cawthra was not far behind with a couple of 27-inchers, which netted him $250, and the Minnow Tackle Shop prize, with 84.50 points to start his season. Amanda Metz took home $150, claiming her first 3rd place plaque, a Bassdash prize pack, with a total of 80.25 points. Allan Marsh found 3 decent fish today to take 4th spot, winning $50 and Lucky Strike Bait Works prize while Gage Nyenhuis took a nice lead in the Youth Series, finishing in 5th place, winning $50, a Dead End Lures prize pack, and a custom Walters Baits trophy to take home.
Mellisa Pelletier was the lucky draw prize winner of a Penn rod/reel combo, donated by Miramichi Striper Cup - Josh Ferris took home a sick 506 Tackle Supply draw prize, Guillaume Cote won the Walters Baits box draw, and Damien Dorcas won the Salty DNA youth prize draw.
